ChartBuilder | Chart Settings

Set up every chart just right, from chord style to layout, in one Chart Settings sheet!

Written by Trevor

New in ChartBuilder 5, Chart Settings and Chart Preferences are now one Settings sheet! Everything from the chart and chord type to the layout, key, capo, and which chart is loaded can be set in one place.

Things to know:

  • Chart settings are personal to the user on this device. Changing them won't change anyone else's charts.

  • Two settings can affect the whole team: a key saved to the cloud, and the chart selected for a song in a setlist. See "What's Personal and What's Shared" below.

  • Some options depend on the device. Layout is only available on tablets and desktop, and Condensed song sections are only available when the RehearsalMix player is off.

Chart Display Options

Opening Chart Settings

  • First, open any chart, either from a setlist or from Browse or Library.

  • Next, tap the gear icon in the top bar of the chart to open the Settings sheet.

  • Then, make changes and tap "Apply" to see them on the chart.

Tip: Tapping outside the sheet before tapping "Apply" will bring up a prompt to save or discard the changes, so nothing changes by accident.

Global Settings

Chart Type

Choose how the chords and lyrics are displayed in the chart.

  • Chords & Lyrics: The default ChartBuilder view. All chords and lyrics are displayed for every song section.

  • Lyrics: All chords are hidden and song sections only include lyrics. The preferred chart type of most singers.

  • Song Map: For team members who only want to see the song arrangement. The Song Map type removes all chords and lyrics, leaving only the song section map and MD Notes.

  • Chords Only: All lyrics are hidden from the song sections, leaving just the chords.

Chord Type

Choose which type of chord notation to display in charts.

  • Chords: Scale letter notation (F, C, Dm, etc.)

  • Numerals: Roman numeral notation, based on the Nashville Number System (I, V, vi, etc.)

  • Numbers: The Nashville Number System, which works no matter the song key (1, 5, 6m, etc.)

  • Do-Re-Mi: Chords are displayed using the Fixed-Do Solfege notation system (Do, Sol, La, etc.)

Layout (Tablet and desktop only)

Choose the chart layout and how to move through it.

  • Scrolling: The chart is one vertical list. Swipe up and down to scroll through the chart, and swipe left and right to move between songs.

  • Paging: The chart is laid out two columns per page. Swipe left and right to page through the chart as well as the songs in a setlist.

On phones, ChartBuilder always uses Scrolling, so the Layout choice doesn't appear in the Settings options.

Song Sections

Shorten song charts by condensing repeated identical sections.

  • Full: View every song section's full content of chords and lyrics.

  • Condensed: The chart content of repeated identical song sections is hidden. Only the song section bubble and MD Notes are shown.
(Condensed is only available when the RehearsalMix player is turned off.)

Show or Hide Chart Features

These toggles turn parts of the chart on or off.

  • Song Map: Show or hide the scrollable song map at the top of the chart.

  • MD Notes: Show or hide the MD Notes in each song section.

  • RehearsalMix Player: Show or hide the RehearsalMix player at the bottom of the chart.

Chart Settings

Key & Capo

The song's key now shows on the tempo and time signature line at the top of the chart, with the capo right next to it. Simply tap the key to open Key & Capo, where the key can be changed and a capo setting can be chosen for viewing the chords.

  • Key: Changes the key of the chart. To change it for the setlist, save the key change to the cloud in the side menu.

  • Capo: Shows the chords for the chosen capo position. A capo setting is local only and is never saved to the cloud.

Note: Saving a song key change to the cloud changes the key for that song in the setlist everywhere. A capo setting change is local only.

Chart Selection

Choose which chart is loaded for the song:

  • MultiTracks.com chart: The original chart for the song.

  • Uploaded PDF: A PDF chart the organization uploaded for the song.

  • Custom chart: A chart the team created by editing chords or MD Notes in ChartBuilder.

The chart selected for a song is saved with the setlist when the setlist is saved to the cloud, so the team defaults to the same chart that's saved by an Admin/Team Leader.

MT Complete Genre

For MT Complete songs, the Settings sheet includes a genre selector. The chart and RehearsalMix files default to the genre scheduled in the setlist, and a different genre can be chosen on the user's own device for practice.
