When you download Pad/Leads/Bass Essentials you will have 6 folders:

The main pack folder

Before installing into Logic you will need to drag the three sample folders into the "Drop Samples Here" folder in your concert. This action ensures that you won't have to keep searching your computer for samples.

INSTALLATION FOR LOGIC

Below are the files and folders you would have received with your download:

Move the ‘exs’ files to the ‘Sampler Instruments’ folder as seen in the Screenshot below:

Instruments can also be stored in the “Sampler Instruments” sub- folder of any of the following folders:

• ~/Library/Application Support/Logic: User-defined or edited instruments are stored here.

• /Library/Application Support/Logic: Factory-supplied EXS instruments are installed here.

• /Applications/Logic 6 Series: EXS instruments created with the Logic 6 Series are stored here.

Locate and Open the Logic file ‘Pad/Lead/Bass Essentials’ and then double click on the ‘EXS24’ plugin to open it for each channel strip.

Click on the missing patch inside the EXS24 player (In this example ‘MISSING: Take Lead) to reveal the dropdown menu.

Locate and select the missing patch. (If the missing patch isn’t showing in the dropdown Menu, like the example below, click on ‘Refresh Menu’).

Once selected it should look like the example below.

ALTERNATIVE LOCATIONS FOR EXS24 SAMPLE INSTRUMENTS

Instruments can also be stored in the “Sampler Instruments” sub- folder of any of the following folders:

• ~/Library/Application Support/Logic: User-defined or edited instruments are stored here.

• /Library/Application Support/Logic: Factory-supplied EXS instruments are installed here.

• /Applications/Logic 6 Series: EXS instruments created with the Logic 6 Series are stored here.

.../ProjectName: MainStage also searches for EXS Instruments in the project folder.

Note you can also store all of your EXS24 sound libraries on a second hard drive to free up space, to do this create an Alias to the ‘Samples’ folder in this location - if you are unsure on how to create alias files, I recommend just moving the files folder to one of the above locations.

COPING THESE PATCHES TO ANOTHER LOGIC OR MAINSTAGE TEMPLATE

If you want to add these patches to another Logic 9 or above template or MainStage 2 or above concert go to the ‘Setting’ button at the top of the channel strip you want to copy and hit “Save as Channel Strip Setting...” Then you can add this saved channel strip to any other Logic/MainStage template by going to the saved channel strip under “User Channel Strip Settings”. If you are copying a sound that also uses effects on a ‘Bus’ be sure to save the ‘Bus’ settings as well and load them into your Logic/MainStage Template.

USING THE PAD/LEAD/BASS ESSENTIALS

I have mapped the Mod Wheel to a Low Pass Filter inside Logic’s EXS24 sample player so you can brighten and mellow the shimmer pads and presets with your Mod Wheel. Note that by default these presets start mellow (Mod Wheel down), so to brighten each patch move your Mod Wheel up or increase the value of whatever midi slide/knob you have set to Ctrl #1.

Note that a lot of these patches have tempo specific elements to them as well. So to change the speed of the delays/rhythmic elements etc simply change the bpm in Logic.

A few of these patches were initially created inside MainStage with the ‘Arpeggiator’ plugin. So I’ve included screenshots of the specific ARP settings for those of you that are running Logic X. For those of you that aren’t you’ll just have to play them in real time like me☺
