There are extensive customization options for how to use a click track in the Playback app. The "Click Sound" setting in the "General" tab of the settings menu is the main way to select the global click sound behavior. And it's important to understand how this setting works in the app to prevent unexpected behavior with the click options in Playback.

General Click Sound Behavior

Selecting a click sound will change the sound of the click track globally in the Playback app, across all songs and setlists for that specific device. These click sound settings are device-specific, and would need to be set for each device specifically. There are three main options for the click track in the Playback app:

  • "Built In" Click Sounds

  • "Downloaded" Click Sound

  • "Custom" Click Sound

Built In Click Sounds

There are a 11 built-in click sounds that are native in the Playback app. Selecting one of these options will replace all click sounds for all songs with an in-app click engine, with a ton more features, including mixing the click's subdivisions, and more. With a built-in click sound selected, there are options in the main tracks mixer window that can be expanded or collapsed, to show all of the individual beat subdivisions of the click track.

If you're not seeing the "Accent," "1/4," "1/8," and "1/16" click subdivision options, you need to either click the arrow to the right of the click fader to expand them, or you don't have a built-in click sound selected in the click sound settings, or you have a custom click sound that doesn't have all the audio files uploaded for it.

Downloaded Click Sound

Selecting the "Click" setting in the "Downloaded" section is telling Playback to not use the built-in click sound engine for the click track. And it's telling Playback to play the audio file click track that is included with the song. Every song from the MultiTracks.com catalog has a click track included that's been engineered for that song, and selecting this setting will tell Playback to use that click audio file for every song.

Note: if you use this setting, and use a cloud song, you'll want to make sure you have an audio track uploaded that includes the click track, since Playback won't generate one when using this Downloaded Click global setting.

Another thing to note with this particular setting, is that when using the Downloaded Click sound setting, there will not be any customization options to mix the subdivisions of the click track. You will only get the audio file click with no customizations to the sound and beats. When needing more flexibility with the click, it's recommended to use one of the "Playback" click sounds, or an uploaded click sound.

Custom Click Sounds

In addition to the engineered click audio files, and the built in Playback click sounds, the Playback click engine can also Playback your own custom click sound audio files.

A custom uploaded click will operate just like a built-in Playback click sound.

For information on how to upload a custom click sound, see HOW TO | Custom Click & Guide in Playback.
