Curious on what sync licensing is all about? See the 📖 Sync Licensing Intro article, or visit the Sync License Product Page for additional details.

There are two main ways to get started with a sync license purchase.

  1. Create a sync license project
(Best start if needing multiple songs for a project)
    or

  2. Navigate to a specific song you want to license for sync.
(Best when you know the song you want to license for a project)

For the purpose of this guide, we'll go the 2nd route, and find the song we want to license. Using the magnifying glass in the top-right of the MultiTracks.com website, we're searching for a song name, and navigating to the song page by clicking on the song title in the search results.

Next, select the "Sync License" tab on the song page, and review the purchase options.

Not seeing a sync license option for a song? Not all songs are available for sync licensing—availability depends on permissions granted by the label or publisher. If the option isn't available, you'll see a link to submit a request. See: Song Availability for Sync Licensing

Step 1: Customization Options for Sync License Audio

There are three available audio products paired with sync licensing, each with different levels of customization to get the ideal soundtrack for your project.

License + MultiTrack includes:

  • 📹 The sync license

  • 🎤 The original & instrumental audio

  • 🎚️Multitrack access: Download all individual stems (drums, vocals, keys, etc.) for full control over your mix. Perfect for creating dynamic, customized audio that fits your video project.

License + CustomMix includes:

  • 📹 The sync license

  • 🎤 The original & instrumental audio

  • 🎧 CustomMix Export: A customizable stereo audio file that's mixed in-browser and exported with the purchase.

License + Original Audio includes:

  • 📹 The sync license (options selected later)

  • 🎤 The original & instrumental audio

Note: Already-purchased MultiTracks (Wav/M4A) can be paired to a new sync license project. This would remove the cost of the multitrack audio, and continue the process for purchasing the sync license for that audio.

Previously purchased CustomMixes cannot be used for sync licensing, and would need to be purchased in conjunction with the sync license project.

Step 2: Creating or adding the license to a project

Once you've decided the audio product that works best for your project, the next step is creating your project on MultiTracks.com. You can create the project while going through the checkout process for a sync license, or can create a sync license project in advance from the "Sync License" account page.

After selecting the product, a window will appear to create a project for this specific sync license, or an already-created project can be selected from the drop-down.

Next, the "usage" for the license can be selected for this specific project. More information on the usage and examples can be seen below.

Explanation of Sync Licensing Usage Categories

Standard Usage

A video used in a regularly occurring service, or event. Could be a single-use video or a video used multiple times.
Examples include: Sermon Bumper Video, Special Church event recap video, General Social media content.

Promotional Usage

A video used for the promotion of a ticketed event, camp, or service.
Examples include: Ticketed events, conferences, Youth Camp promotion, etc.

Commercial Usage

Video used for commercial purposes.

Examples include: TV Commercial, Branding, advertisements.

Note on Commercial Usage: Commercial licensing is not available for direct purchase at this time. If your project requires commercial use, you'll be prompted to submit a request, which our team will handle manually.

After setting the usage for the sync project, the Expected Attendance can be filled out. If this is an online-only ad or content, the expected audience, or number of followers could be used for this number as well.

Note: if selecting an already-created project, the settings of the sync license will be automatically set and locked to the settings for the sync license project.

About Pricing: Sync license pricing varies based on several factors: the audio product tier selected (MultiTrack, CustomMix, or Original Audio), the usage type (Standard vs. Promotional), and the expected attendance/audience size. Pricing shown during checkout reflects your specific project details.

Checkout and Downloading the audio

After filling out all of the details of the project, and audio needed, you're then able to add the product to your cart and checkout. Please note, only admins will be able to complete the purchase for a sync license project. Team leaders will be able to add songs to a Sync project, but the checkout needs to be completed by an admin (Organization Admin or Campus Admin).

*Pricing is for visual reference only.
Actual price will vary depending on the audio product, and project details.

One project per cart: Only one sync license project can be in your cart at a time. If you need to add songs from a different project, you'll need to complete or remove the current cart first.

Downloading the Audio

When purchasing the audio files with the sync license, or when using already-purchased track products with a sync license, new files will be created and watermarked for the specific sync project. So your account will have two versions of the audio files; one version that's watermarked and licensed for live performance as backing tracks, and one version that's watermarked and licensed for the sync project.

It's important to download the correct audio files for your sync project and avoid downloading the wrong set of audio files, watermarked for the wrong use-type.

Download window: A 48-hour download window will start when the first download of the audio product is initiated. After that 48 hours after the first download, the sync license audio files will be expired. It's recommended to store the audio files locally or in your own cloud storage (in alignment with our terms and conditions) for future access.

Accessing audio files for a sync project

To download the files for a sync project, download the files from within the "Sync Project" download window only. The files can be accessed and downloaded from the "Sync License" account page directly, or from the "Downloads" account page, by selecting the "Sync License" item.

Accessing your License Certificate

After purchasing a sync license, a license certificate is generated for your project. This is your legal documentation confirming the rights granted for that specific video project. You can access it from your Sync License account page alongside your downloadable files. Keep this on file for your records.

Accessing Audio Files for Live Performance

To access the downloads for a specific song product for live performance use, it's important to not download or use the sync license audio files, as those are watermarked specifically for that sync license project, and not for live performance. You can download these files for live performance from the "Download Files" small link on the sync license project page, or from the downloads page directly, not inside the sync-license.
