For the first time ever, the MultiTracks.com catalog of worship music is available for sync licensing; empowering creators to legally use MultiTracks.com songs in micro-sync projects such as sermon bumper videos, pre-service content, promotional event media, and more.

What is Sync Licensing?

  • Sync Licensing (short for "synchronization licensing") grants permission to use music in timed relation with visual media—like videos, slideshows.

  • It's different from live-streaming or performance licenses. Sync covers the music + video combination. In short, if you're synchronizing copyrighted music, to digital media like video content for an edited video, you need a sync license.

  • Without a sync license, using copyrighted music in your church's videos violates copyright law, even if you already own the tracks from MultiTracks.com (because purchased tracks from MultiTracks.com only include the "performance license." See the MultiTracks.com Terms of Use section 2 for additional information).

Note: A Church Streaming License (CSL) or other performance license does not cover sync licensing. Sync licensing is a separate right that must be purchased specifically for video productions. If you're unsure which license applies to your use case, see the article breakdown below or reach out to our support team.

Why is Sync Licensing important?

Proper sync licensing is important for a few main reasons:

  • Legal Protection: Complying with copyright law to avoid legal complications.

  • Artist Support: Royalties go to the original songwriters and publishers.

  • Peace of Mind: Know your church is honoring copyright and licensing standards.

For the first time, the MultiTracks.com catalog is available for sync licensing — letting churches and creators legally use MultiTracks.com songs in video content like sermon bumpers, pre-service media, promotional videos, and event recaps. This article covers what sync licensing is, when you need it, which songs are available, and how to purchase a license.

What is sync licensing?

Sync licensing (short for "synchronization licensing") is the right to use music in timed combination with visual media — video, slideshows, or any edited content where music plays alongside images.

Sync licensing is a separate right from a performance license or a streaming license. When you purchase tracks from MultiTracks.com, you receive a performance license, which covers live use. Cutting that same music into a video is a different copyright right and requires a sync license. (See MultiTracks.com Terms of Use, section 2 for details.)

A Church Streaming License (CSL) or any other performance license does not cover sync licensing. Using copyrighted music in your church's edited videos without a sync license violates copyright law, even if your church already owns the tracks. If you're unsure which license applies to your use case, see the comparison below or contact our support team.

Why sync licensing matters

  • Legal protection. Comply with copyright law and avoid legal complications.

  • Artist support. Royalties flow to the original songwriters and publishers.

  • Peace of mind. Know your church is honoring copyright and licensing standards.

Song availability for sync licensing

Not every song in the MultiTracks.com catalog is available for sync. Availability is determined by the rights each label or publisher has granted to MultiTracks.com, and it varies song-by-song. Songs fall into one of three tiers:

  • Standard use only. Available for internal church videos.

  • Standard and Promotional use. Available for both internal and promotional / public-facing video.

  • Not currently available. Sync licensing rights have not been granted yet.

If a song you want isn't available, you'll see a Submit a request option directly on the song page. Requests go to our music partnerships team, who work with the label on your behalf to explore availability.

Song availability can change over time as we expand licensing agreements. A song that isn't available today may become available in the future. Submitting a request helps us prioritize those conversations with labels.
