Enabling/Disabling the Reference Track Feature

The reference track feature is available in the "General" settings tab in the Playback app's settings. Reference track can be toggled on or off for all songs globally.

Which content includes a Reference Track?

Not all content loaded into Playback will include a reference track. The reference track feature is only possible with the following content types:

  • Playback Rentals

  • AppTracks

  • MultiTrack WAVs or M4As

  • Cloud Songs (with an uploaded stem designated as "Original Song")

If you have any of these above content types for a particular song, your song will include a reference track on the "Tracks" layer, as the last (far right) fader listed for that particular song.

Accompaniment tracks and CustomMix purchases do not currently include the reference track feature in Playback.

Accompaniment track and CustomMix purchases can be upgraded to an AppTrack for a discounted price, to unlock the full stems and the Reference track feature in Playback. 👍🏼

Routing, and using the Playback app Reference Track

After enabling the Reference Track setting, and ensuring your content in Playback meets the content requirements, you can now use the reference track feature in Playback.

Reference Track Audio Routing:

By default, the Reference track is routed to the "Click" bus. This is so your team can easily hear it for reference when turned on. To change this, use quick routing by entering "Setlist / song Map" edit mode, and then tapping on the "Reference" track name below the fader, and then selecting the preferred bus. Or, alternatively, head to Settings > "Tracks" tab, find "Original Song (Reference)" in the list, and change the track routing from there to the desired bus.

Using the Reference Track

Head to the "tracks" layer showing the faders for the click and all tracks in the song. Scroll to the farthest right fader/track to find the "Reference" track.

When engaged, the reference track will mute ALL instrument tracks, so that the original reference track can be heard clearly. The way in which the reference track is engaged determines whether the reference track mutes the click or not with it.

There are two ways to engage the reference track while audio is playing:

  1. Without the Click
To engage the reference track without the click metronome, simply select the solo "S" icon at the to of the reference track fader.

  2. With the Click
To engage the reference track with the click metronome, simply unmute the reference track by tapping on the "Reference" track title below the fader.
