Getting Started with HeadRush Prime, Core, Flex Prime & More

Load MultiTracks NAM captures, Impulse Responses, and rigs on HeadRush Prime, Core, and Flex Prime.

Written by Trevor

What works on your HeadRush unit

HeadRush Prime, Core, and Flex Prime play MultiTracks NAM captures natively, with no conversion, and load MultiTracks Impulse Responses. On firmware 5.2 (October 2026) you can run two NAM A2 Full captures in one rig, or up to four A2 Lite captures.

MultiTracks sells three products for HeadRush:

  • NAM capture packs: .nam files of the amps on the records, playable on any NAM-ready device.

  • Impulse Responses: .wav cab files for electric and acoustic.

  • Full HeadRush rig presets: complete pedalboard setups with captures, cabs, drives, modulation, delays, reverbs, and scenes already dialed in for a song or style. Load one and play the whole set from it.

HeadRush units do not load Kemper, Neural DSP, Line 6, or ToneX captures. NAM is the capture format, and the same .nam files you buy from us play on every other NAM-ready device you own.

Know your unit

Prime, Core, and Flex Prime share the same processing power and run the same rigs, so a MultiTracks rig built on one loads on the others. The differences are size, controls, and extras.

HeadRush Prime. The full floorboard with a 7-inch touchscreen, expression pedal, vocal processing, and Wi-Fi. Everything in this guide applies.

HeadRush Core. A compact floorboard with the same amp and NAM processing as the Prime and a touchscreen. Everything in this guide applies.

HeadRush Flex Prime. The most compact of the three, with the same processing power and full rig compatibility with Prime and Core. It plays NAM A2 Full like the Prime and Core.

Older units: MX5, Gigboard, Pedalboard. These do not have Wi-Fi or NAM support. They still load MultiTracks Impulse Responses through USB Transfer and run their own stock amp models.

All three NAM-ready units also include HeadRush's own Clone and SuperClone capture technology and the ReValver Amp Cloner software. MultiTracks captures for HeadRush are NAM files, not HeadRush Clones.

Before you start

Update first. NAM arrived in firmware 5.1, and the two-capture rigs our presets use need firmware 5.2 or later.

  1. Connect your Prime, Core, or Flex Prime to Wi-Fi and log in to your HeadRush account on the unit.

  2. Back up your current rigs, IRs, and clones to your computer before updating (see USB Transfer under Loading NAM captures).

  3. Install firmware 5.2 or later. The unit offers the update over Wi-Fi, or you can use the HeadRush Updater app over USB.

  4. Unzip your MultiTracks download. It contains NAM captures (.nam), IR files (.wav), HeadRush rig files built around them, and a readme listing each capture, its type, and the rig it belongs to.

Downloads, manuals, and editor software

HeadRush units do not need a separate editor: the touchscreen is the editor, and your computer sees the unit as a USB drive for file transfer. Firmware updaters and manuals live on the HeadRush support site.

NAM on HeadRush: how it works and what you get

NAM (Neural Amp Modeler) is an open capture format: a snapshot of one real amp or pedal at one setting, saved as a .nam file that plays on any NAM-ready hardware or software. NAM A2 is the current generation; each A2 file holds both a Full version and a lighter version.

What HeadRush supports as of firmware 5.2:

  • Two A2 Full captures per rig. Use two separate NAM A2 blocks, or one block with Stereo Doubling or Switch Doubling turned on.

  • Up to four A2 Lite captures per rig, by turning on doubling across two NAM A2 blocks.

  • A1 files load too, one per block.

  • Automatic gain matching. HeadRush reads NAM A2 calibration metadata, so captures that include it load at the levels they were made at.

  • Clean switching. Scene and rig changes with NAM no longer produce delays or noise bursts.

The two-capture limit is what makes HeadRush especially useful for worship sets. You can put a clean and a driven capture of the same amp in one rig and switch between them by scene, or run two different amps in stereo, the way you would on stage with real amps.

What you get in a MultiTracks NAM pack: several A2 captures of the same amp at different gain settings; Amp + Cab captures, Amp-only (DI) captures, or both, labeled in the readme; matching MultiTracks IRs for the DI captures; and HeadRush rigs that pair two captures with scenes ready for a set. The same .nam files play on every other NAM-ready device you own.

Loading NAM captures

HeadRush gives you three ways to get files onto the unit. USB Transfer is the most direct for a MultiTracks download.

USB Transfer (recommended)

  1. Connect the unit to your computer with a USB cable.

  2. On the unit, tap the three dots at the top right, choose Global Settings, tap the three dots again, and choose USB Transfer. The unit appears on your computer as a drive named HeadRush.

  3. Drag the MultiTracks .nam files into the NAM folder, the .wav IRs into the IR folder, and the rig files into the Rigs folder. Follow the folder names in the readme.

  4. Eject the HeadRush drive from your computer before unplugging. Skipping this step can corrupt files.

  5. Tap Sync on the unit to commit the new files. Do not power off during sync.

Dropbox

Put the MultiTracks files in your linked Dropbox folder and import them from the Dropbox option on the unit. Useful when you are away from your computer but the unit is on Wi-Fi.

Using a capture in a rig

  1. Open a rig and add a NAM A2 block to the signal chain.

  2. Tap the block and choose the MultiTracks .nam file.

  3. For a second capture, add a second NAM A2 block, or turn on Switch Doubling (to switch between two captures) or Stereo Doubling (to run two side by side) in the same block.

  4. If the readme marks a capture as Amp-only (DI), add a Cab block after it and load the MultiTracks IR. Amp + Cab captures need no Cab block.

  5. Save the rig.

Loading a MultiTracks HeadRush rig file skips steps 1 to 4: once its .nam files and IRs are on the unit, the rig loads with captures, cabs, scenes, and effects in place.

Loading Impulse Responses and rigs

Impulse Responses. Copy the MultiTracks .wav files to the IR folder through USB Transfer (steps above), eject, and Sync. In a rig, tap the Cab block, choose the IR option, and select the MultiTracks IR. HeadRush accepts a practically unlimited number of IRs, so you can keep the whole MultiTracks library on the unit. Older MX5, Gigboard, and Pedalboard units load IRs the same way.

Rigs. Copy the .nam files and IRs first, then the rig files, in the same USB Transfer session. After Sync, open the rig from the rig browser. If a NAM or Cab block shows as missing, the file it points to is not on the unit or is in a different folder; copy it in and Sync again.

Making it sound like the demo

NAM captures react to input level like a real amp. Set the input and outputs once and every MultiTracks rig will land close to the demo.

  1. Input level. Leave the rig's input level at its default with your guitar volume at full while auditioning. MultiTracks captures include calibration metadata, so HeadRush sets each capture's input and output automatically on firmware 5.2. Avoid large trims on top of that.

  2. Pedals in front. If you run drives, boosts, or compressors before the HeadRush, let them manage your gain staging rather than raising the input.

  3. Output routing. Send the main outputs at line level to front-of-house or your interface. If you also feed a guitar amp, bypass the Cab block on that output, or use the amp's effects return.

  4. One cab, once. Never add a Cab block after an Amp + Cab capture.

  5. Doubled captures. With Stereo Doubling, pan the two captures and match their levels before adjusting anything else.

Then adjust in this order: the NAM block's gain for feel, the Cab block's low and high cut for the room (roughly 80 to 100 Hz and 8 to 10 kHz for a direct worship mix), and the rig's output level so it matches your other rigs. Treat these as the starting point for demo-accurate tone. Your guitar, pedals, and speakers all change the result, so finish by ear.

Troubleshooting and FAQ

I can only load one NAM capture per rig. You are on firmware 5.1. Update to 5.2 or later for two A2 Full captures per rig.

My files do not show up on the unit. You did not eject the HeadRush drive or tap Sync after USB Transfer. Reconnect, check the files are in the right folders, eject, and Sync.

The rig says a capture or IR is missing. The .nam or .wav file the rig expects is not on the unit, or it sits in a different folder. Copy it into the folder named in the readme and Sync.

It sounds thin and fizzy. You are playing a DI capture with no Cab block. Add one and load the MultiTracks IR named in the readme.

It sounds muffled. You have a Cab block after an Amp + Cab capture, or the cab is on while you feed a guitar amp. Remove the extra cab or bypass it on that output.

Levels jump between rigs. Adjust each rig's output level, not the master volume.

Does my MX5, Gigboard, or Pedalboard play NAM? No. NAM needs a Prime, Core, or Flex Prime. Older units still load MultiTracks Impulse Responses.

Can I browse TONE3000 on the unit? Yes. Prime, Core, and Flex Prime browse and download captures from TONE3000 on the touchscreen over Wi-Fi. MultiTracks captures come from your MultiTracks download, not from TONE3000.

Can I use these .nam files elsewhere? Yes. MultiTracks NAM captures play on any NAM-ready hardware or plug-in, including the Axe-Fx III and the NAM plug-in on your computer.

What to look at next

  • Prime, Core, and Flex Prime owners: MultiTracks full rig presets, complete pedalboard setups with two NAM captures, effects, and scenes ready for a set.

  • Building your own rigs: MultiTracks NAM capture packs, plus the IRs for any DI captures.

  • Every HeadRush owner, including MX5 and Gigboard: MultiTracks Impulse Responses for electric and acoustic.
